Masindi High Court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to 12 years in prison for defiling a 13-year-old girl in Karungu Village, Kiryandongo sub county Kiryandongo Sub County.
According to the state attorney one Kakundakwe, the accused Francis Ojok, who was a guardian to the victim, defiled her in 2012. Kakundakwe also told court that the minor conceived and gave birth to a baby girl through a caesarian section.
Ojok pleaded guilty before court.
Harriet Ajok, the counsel representing the accused asked court to award a lenient sentence to Ojok since he never wasted court’s time by pleading guilty and him being a first time offender.
The presiding judge, Wilson Musale Musene who is also the Masindi High Court visiting Judge stated that the case calls for a deterrent sentence to discourage other people from involving themselves in such acts adding that cases of aggravated defilement are rampant in Bunyoro sub region.
Musene also noted that Ojok being a guardian to the girl, he was meant to protect her but not commit such a heinous act.
Musene also explained that the accused would have been sentenced to over 20 years in prison but since he pleaded guilty and considering the seven years he had spent on remand, his sentence was reduced to 12 years.
